Twenty One
Seeing as it is still Jan. 21, this is as good a time as any for a variation on 21 Questions. Instead of questions, it'll just be the answers.
1. I had rather curly hair as a kid. And I wore it long a lot of times. Hey it was the "look" once. Then I wore it "bad boy" long. Pony tail long. Now I shave my head most days, preferring the smooth look. Go figure.
2. I find I'm most in my element in jeans and flannel shirts.
3. I LOVE the beach
4. I love the mountains too. I grew up in the mountains and am not a "Flatlander" by nature.
5. I own a lot of boots. Harness boots, engineer boots, work boots. In black and in brown. They are far more comfortable than shoes.
6. I do also have a pair of blue suede shoes. Really.
7. I know the lyrics to many a Johnny Cash song. Ditto Patsy Cline, Lorretta Lynn, Emmylou Harris and Hank Williams. (see item #4)
8. I also know the lyrics to many a Madonna song, Bjork, and The Killers.
9. Green is one of my favorite colors. Dark Greens like hunter green and forest green. But I like blue a lot too, particularly that rich, darker and more intense blue of a late, clear, July or August afternoon.
10. I have a pretty long fuse, rather than a short temper, but once I reach my boiling point I am pretty intolerable (and highly intolerant.)
11. I don't smoke, but I'm not one of those who harbor ill will against smokers. Listen, some people enjoy it. It's easy enough to eat in a restaurant that is non-smoking (or has a non-smoking section) or find lodging that is non-smoking. Jeez, you can even rent a car based on your preference for smoking or non-smoking. It shouldn't be a criminal act to want to enjoy a cigarette, that's all I'm saying.
12. I am appalled by the fact that executive compensation in this country is out of control. Executive compensation is 400X the average worker, yet without the average worker in the "trenches" toiling away, that big executive has no product or no service to sell. SO, who is really more important in this scenario.
13. Ditto my being appalled at the state of health care in this country.
14. I will never have a pension, which might not be so bad considering all those who thought they had one, only to see it disappear when the company went into bankruptcy to ditch it, er, I mean for "restructuring."
15. I Love Blueberry Pie. ditto Pumpkin. ditto Apple.
16. I love baseball (most days anyway).
17. I do NOT love being forced to be "patriotic" by turning a simple singing of the anthem into a medley or mini-opera complete with trimmings of all kinds. Just give me the Star Spangled Banner and lets sit and get on with the game and our beers already. I am glad to be an American, but like religion, I find PUBLIC displays best saved for special occasions. Oh, and by the way, I can love this country and still NOT like this administration---in fact, the FREEDOM to do that is one of the things I most value as an American.
18. I prefer dark chocolate over milk chocolate. And white chocolate is just the garbage left over in the process of making the good stuff (the dark chocolate).
19. I like beer, but Bourbon is better.
20. In my "twink" years, I used to wear cologne regularly. Now I prefer not to. And I prefer the men I date or bed to not wear it either. There is a difference between BO (and being "rank") versus clean without cologne. The natural smell of a man is intoxicating. INTOXICATING.
21. I have not seen Brokeback Mountain yet. But I know when I do, I will not cry. I've known unrequited love. Known it and survived it. Revisiting it by proxy, by watching the film, will not be enough to elicit any more tears on that subject.
